Infotourist is now an official member of the Canadian Music Creators Coalition. Here's why.

America Will Hide Me From The World

Posted by Jason on July 14, 2006

After a good deal of sonic tweaking and backroom deliberation here at Infotourist HQ, we are now ready to dispatch our official $0.02 about the "war on terror" to the masses.

You (the masses) can download it here (128Kb/s, 4:19, 4MB). The song is entitled "America Will Hide Me From The World"; you can find the lyrics and assorted further information on our music page.

We hope that you like it. We also hope, idealistically, that this song can influence some political change in the US, however small, and play some role in preventing Canada from heading any further in the same direction. So please pass it around liberally (ahem).

Infotourist As Canadian Content

The MMC10 Compilation CDs have just arrived at Infotourist HQ, and it turns out that we're the only Canadian band that made it on!

"Hello, Helpdesk!" Is On The MMC Compilation CD

Posted by Jason on July 11, 2006

More good news about "Hello, Helpdesk!", which I have neglected to post until now: it edged out songs from about 300 other bands to find a place on the official Millennium Music Conference compilation CD, which was distributed to everyone at MMC as well as a select group of record companies, radio stations and music industry professionals. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our copies.

Two such music industry professionals, Patriot-News music writers Barry Fox and Kira L. Schlechter, picked "Hello, Helpdesk!" as one of the best tracks on the CD, calling it a jaunty, quirkily witty take on being a working drone buried in a cubicle in the world of big business. It might be a bit long, (guilty) but the highly observant lyrics are brilliantly pointed. Thanks!

And Alexis Dow wrote, also in Harrisburg's Patriot-News: These lads hail from Kingston, Ontario, and they're probably some of the coolest guys there. Their sound punches convention in the face with a fistful of indie cred and Radiohead-meets-Modest Mouse-meets-Godspeed You. Plus, they sing songs about things such as how mind-numbing the daily grind can be. Who can't relate to that? Thanks again, Patriot-News, although I have to be honest: we might not, in fact, be the coolest guys here.

Skeleton Park Music Festival Photos

Here are a couple of great flickr photos of us at the Skeleton Park Music Festival.

Between the two pictures, I appear to have some sort of love-hate thing going on with the microphone. I think we eventually worked everything out.

"Hello, Helpdesk!" Honourably Mentioned in the Unisong International Songwriting Contest

Posted by Jason on July 10, 2006

Yes, our own little "Hello, Helpdesk!" fared pretty well when dropped into a pit full of seething and vicious international hits-in-training. The Honourable Mention is here. The listings are alphabetical by song, so "Hello, Helpdesk!" is right before "Jump On". So jump onto your help desks, everybody, and give us a little shake in celebration of some Canadian representation.

We're pretty happy, here at Infotourist, about our scrappy little song cracking the international stage. My long years spent in cubicles, raising the song from just a minor annoyance to a full-blown diatribe, were a small price to pay. You've done the Infotourist family proud, little one.

The Sweet Hereafter Podcast

Posted by Noah on June 21, 2006

The podcast of our visit to The Sweet Hereafter at CFRC on Tuesday June 20 is now available. Download it here, but be aware that it's 108 Megabytes. We're on from about the 1:15:00 mark to about 1:35:00, but the whole show is worth a listen.

Tuan plays a lot of great music each week, and we highly recommend subscribing to the podcast so that you can keep up.
